The Government of Pakistan is simultaneously working on access, equity and to improve the quality of education. These aspects present quite a bit of challenges to the planners. However, less attention was paid to assessment of quality of student learning. The reason was that the practice was not followed by the policy makers for the desired improvement. This necessitated the introduction of a well-planned and properly executed national assessment in Pakistan. This is a technical report on National Assessment Test 2016 conducted in grade 4 for English and Science, and grade 8 for the subjects of Mathematics and Urdu.
